LONDON UK—Thomas Roche, assistant vice president, senior consultant, international codes and standards at commercial property insurer FM Global, has been named a 2020 UK influencer in fire safety by IFSEC Global, one of the world’s leading security and fire sector news sites. The award recognises “the talent and efforts of some of the leading individuals tirelessly developing the sector,” according to IFSEC Global.

Roche, who works to share FM Global’s knowledge and expertise to influence building codes and loss prevention standards, was nominated for the award by the IFSEC Global audience and selected by a panel of judges who play prominent roles in the security and fire sectors across the globe.

Roche, a vocal proponent of active fire protection systems in the UK and a driving force behind calls to review fire safety regulation to improve property protection, also serves as the secretary of the Business Sprinkler Alliance (BSA) and as active protection director for the Fire Sector Federation.

“At FM Global, we believe that the majority of loss is preventable, not inevitable”, said Andrew Bryson, operations senior vice president and manager of the company’s London operations. “Tom’s hard work advocating for automatic sprinkler systems and greater investment in fire protection ideally will inspire further action across industries and building types in coming years.”
